Custodians of Beauty

Ancona, Italy, September 21, 2017. Mole Vanvitelliana. The Mole houses artworks saved from the areas affected by the Marche earthquake of August 24, 2016. On the left: the template of the Baptistery of Caldarola (Macerata), and a crucifix from the Monastery of Santa Chiara di Camerino (Macerata). Dusting and disinfection of recovered works is necessary in order to eliminate biological attacks which would otherwise destroy the art object. With wooden objects and paintings on canvas, organic materials extremelu susceptible to biological degradation. All the operations carried out at this stage allow for a brief halting, if necessary, to ensure the proper preservation of the art.
